Spain

Spain is said to be Europe's second most mountainous country, after Switzerland, and this becomes immediately apparent as you fly in over its seemingly endless green ridges. The country is perhaps most commonly known as a package holiday destination, however step behind the busy Costas and you'll discover a charming rural interior that is ideal for a walking holiday.

Delights of rural Andalucia
Situated in southern Spain, the province of Andalucia is one of the most picturesque corners of Spain. An agreeable year-round climate and cheap flights to Malaga Airport have also made it the most popular tourist destination, with most visitors heading to the busy resorts of the Costa Del Sol. However, head inland for just an over an hour and you'll come to Ronda an attractive whitewashed town which is surrounded by beautiful countryside and several national parks. On a guided Classic Walking holiday based here you'll walk in this attractive landscape and also have plenty of time to explore the historic town itself.

The Andalucian capital of Seville contains all the quintessetial elements of Spain. Here you'll find historic whitewashed buildings, tapas bars, flamenco dancers, plus a superb collection of museums and monuments. Discover the city's unique atmosphere on a guided city break, which also includes a day in the equally-enthralling neighbouring city of Cordoba.

Discover Catalonia
The region of Catalonia prides itself on its independence, distinct culture and its own Catalan language. Its vibrant and cultured capital Barcelona ranks as one of Europe's most exciting destinations for a City Break with highlights such as Gaudi's Sagrada Familia cathedral, the historic Gothic Quarter and the bustling boulevard of Las Rambles.

Another way to experience Catalonia is on a guided walking holiday. Based in the peaceful mountain village of Setcases, this is a holiday for those who want to enjoy the traditional cuisine and slow way of life of rural Spain, and included walks in the green foothills of the Pyrenees.

On the Pilgrim's Trail
In north-west Spain the province of Galicia is home to one of Europe's most famous walks, the Camino de Santiagio pilgrimage route. Whether your journey has added spiritual meaning, or you just want to enjoy the wonderful green scenery, this guided or self-guided trail will lead you over the rolling hills to the beautiful city of Santiago de Compostela, the final resting place of the apostle St James.

Islands in the Sun
As well as the mainland, Spain's offshore islands also offer a great variety of scenery. In the Mediterranean the three Balearic Islands each have their own personality. The largest is Mallorca where you'll find both brash resorts and chic mountain villages. Spanning the island are the lofty Tramuntana Mountains which form the basis of many of our guided walks from our base in the attractive harbour town of Puerto de Sóller . Alternatively the Tramuntana Trail is a great way of heading off the beaten track. In contrast, the smaller neighbouring island of Menorca is both flatter and more peaceful. The highlight here are the beautiful coastal walks, which when coupled with the sleepy inland scenery make for a relaxing and enjoyable holiday.

Further away, off the coast of North Africa, the Canary Islands offer landscapes quite unlike anything else in Europe. On a guided Classic Walking holiday to either Tenerife or Lanzarote you'll experience remarkable volcanic landscapes and lush coastal scenery, and see the amazing array of vegetation. In the Winter there is nowhere better for a warm-weather walking getaway.
