Detailed itinerary

Day 1: arrive at your first guesthouse in the charming coastal village of Marloes or Dale, located within the Pembrokeshire National Park.

Day 2: enjoy your first sight of some of the stunning beaches along this coastal route from Dale to Martin's Haven including beautiful unspoilt Marloes Sands. (10½ miles, 420ft of ascent)

We strongly recommend an extra day at Marloes for wildlife enthusiasts. From here, you can take the boat to Skomer Island, a nature reserve famous for its puffins, wildflowers and other birdlife. Book early for holidays in April and May. Please note that Skomer Island is closed on Mondays.

Day 3: walk from Martin's Haven, past Musselwick Sands, the pretty cove of St Bride's Haven and the delightful Little Haven to Broad Haven. (11 miles, 750ft of ascent)

Day 4: walk from Broad Haven, via the lovely beaches at Nolton Haven and Newgale Sands, to the small fishing village of Solva, where you can explore the small shops and art galleries. (11 miles, 1,600ft of ascent)

Day 5: on this last part of your trail from Solva to Whitesands Bay enjoy more rugged coastline, and walk via the harbour where St David was baptised. Spend the evening in St David's, the smallest city in Britain. (12 miles, 770ft of ascent)

Day 6: free day to explore St David's and to visit the famous Cathedral. You can also go whale-watching, visit Ramsey Island or do a short circular walk around St David's Head.

Day 7: depart after breakfast.

Your accommodation and meals

You stay in small, friendly guesthouses, family-run hotels, farmhouse bed and breakfasts and country inns all offering you the warmth of traditional British hospitality.

We offer en-suite rooms wherever possible, although in more remote regions where accommodation is limited they may not be available. You may stay for one night or spend several nights at one guesthouse and where this is the case we will provide a pick up and drop off service for your day's walk. You will receive a complete list of your accommodation with contact details in your personal information pack.

All accommodation is booked on a bed and breakfast basis, allowing you the freedom to choose where and when you would like to eat your lunch and evening meals. In many cases the guesthouses where you stay offer excellent evening meals or your personal information pack provides details of recommended restaurants and traditional British pubs.

Information about which of the guesthouses provide a packed lunch, and how much this costs is provided in our local information booklet included in your personal information pack. If the guesthouses en route are unable to offer this service we provide information about where you can buy food in local shops nearby. Alternatively, you may like to stop for lunch and sample the local cuisine at traditional pubs and cafes as you choose.
