Day 1: arrive in St Wolfgang and explore this
most picturesque of villages by the side of
Lake Wolfgang. Receive your information documents.
Day 2: an easy start to your holiday with a boat
ride to the Abersee Peninsula and then a gentle trail around
the lakeside via the town of Strobl and back to
St Wolfgang. (7 miles, level route with minimal
ascent)
Day 3: a lovely walk up through mountain
meadows to the hidden Schwarzensee Lake and
then down a rocky and challenging path to the
quiet village of Unterach where you take a boat to Nussdorf. (11 miles, 700ft of ascent.
Alternative more gentle descent is also possible)
Day 4: return by boat to Unterach then walk through the Buchwald forest up to the Egelsee nature reserve and then a
gentle descent to the village of Nussdorf.
(8 miles, 550ft of ascent)
Day 5: catch the bus this morning to Mondsee
and from there walk up to the ruins of Castle
Wartenfels. (More experienced walkers may
choose to ascend the Schober peak.) It is a
gentle ascent from here to the lakeside village of
Fuschl. (7 miles, 1,300ft of ascent)
Day 6: free day to relax and go swimming in the
lake or a walk around the beautiful Fuschlsee.
Day 7: from Fuschl walk into the Ellmau Valley and up to the Hochlackenhof
before desending to the town of St
Gilgen. You walk around the lake to Furberg before
catching the boat back to St Wolfgang. Catch the
rack railway to the top of the Schafberg for tremendous views, then descend to your hotel in St Wolfgang. (9 miles, 300ft of ascent)
Day 8: depart for the airport or spend extra nights in
St Wolfgang.
