Days 2-4: We drive across the fertile plains towards the Middle Atlas Mountains, stopping to explore Rabat, the capital, before continuing to Meknés and Fez (3 nights). Here, walks in the cool mountain air of the Middle Atlas provide a delightful introduction to the Moroccan countryside. We also enjoy a guided tour of the ancient and symbolic city of Fez whose imposing defensive walls surround a labyrinth of narrow
alleyways and covered bazaars.

Days 5-6: Our journey continues through the heart of Morocco to Erfoud (2 nights) where we experience an unforgettable landscape of sweeping sand dunes on a walk and camel ride into the desert.

Days 7-8: Continue to the Dadés Valley (2 nights) where our Berber mountain guide will lead us through plantations of olives, walnuts and almonds to the narrow Todra Gorge, one of the country's most impressive natural sights. A day walking in the unspoilt Saghro Mountains offers panoramic views across the mountains
and desert.

Days 9-13: A magnificent drive leads us through the High Atlas Mountains, via Ouarzazate and the Tizi n'Tichka Pass, to the ochre-coloured city of Marrakesh (5 nights). Our local guide will show us the fascinating souks, mosques and grand palaces of the old town, one of North Africa's most important artistic and cultural centres. We also enjoy outstanding walks to Berber villages and the beautiful valleys of the snow-capped High Atlas, dominated by its highest peak, Jebel Toubkal.

Day 14: Return flight to the UK.

About the walks

A mixture of part and full-day walks, combined with touring and sightseeing.

Guided Walks:
Distances are generally between 6-10 miles. As the walking is generally more strenuous in the High Atlas than the Middle Atlas, easier walks will also be offered on these days. Paths can be rough with sections of steep ascent and descent and some journeys to walks involve travel on rough roads. Travelling days include walks or sightseeing stops en route.

On each departure the temperature is likley to be pleasent for walking, although May should be the warmest and November the coolest.
