| Day 1: Depart UK |
|
Days 2-3: Arrive Kathmandu (2 nights). Explore
some of the highlights of this mystical city including
Durbar Square and the Buddhist temple of
Swayambhunath. |
Days 4-5: A spectacular flight takes us to Lukla and
the start of our trek (12 nights) in the magnificent
Everest region. We pass through charming villages
and witness at close quarters the majesty of the
high Himalayas. Our route takes us to Monjo and
then on to the bustling village capital of the area,
Namche Bazaar.
Days 6-9: for the next few days we trek alongside
the Dudh Khosi River and up through Sherpa
heartlands to Pangboche and Tengboche
monastery, a movingly spiritual place high in the
mountains with views of mighty white peak of Ama
Dablam. We have an acclimatisation day at
Dingboche, 14,300ft, from where we can hike to
Chhukung, a starting point for mountaineers
heading towards Island Peak and from where the
views are awe-inspiring.
Days 10-11: We trek up to Lobuche, in the constant
company of the mountain giants Tawache, Ama
Dablam, Pokalde and the great wall of Nuptse. We
have a rest day here at just over 16,000ft.
Day 12: Today we reach Everest Base Camp. We
follow the trail by the Khumbu glacier and past
Gorakshep, the site of the original base camp, and
continue to the present day base camp, from where
we will be able to appreciate the apprehension and
excitement of Hillary, Tenzing and the early explorers.
We return to Gorakshep for overnight.
Day 13: Today brings another highlight, the trek to
Kalapathar. From here the views are amazing; Everest
seems just a stone’s throw away and we really feel like
we are on top of the world. We trek back to
Pangboche for the night..
Days 14-15: Our trek leads us downhill for a few days,
back to Namche for the night and then on through the
steep valley to Lukla.
Days 16-17: Fly to Kathmandu (2 nights) where we visit
Patan and explore the Kathmandu valley.
Day 18: Return flight home.
