2009 Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Depart UK

Days 2-4: Arrive Kathmandu (3 nights). We spend time absorbing the atmosphere of this fascinatingly different city visiting the main sites. The grounds of our delightful resort hotel will offer the chance to see an amazing variety of local birds and flowers.

Day 5: Walk to Gokarna (1 night) along a ridge through a beautiful pine forest, with lovely views of the Kathmandu valley.

Day 6: Explore the distinctive charms of medieval Bhaktapur and its striking temple of Nyatapola on the way to our hilltop retreat at Nagarkot (1 night).

Day 7: After witnessing sunrise over the Himalayas we hike the charming path to Dhulikel (1 night) a compact Newari town, enriched with artistic woodcarvings.

Day 8: Travel to Patan (1 night), t he second major city of the Kathmandu Valley, full of Hindu temples and Buddhist monuments.

Days 9-10: Move on to Hattiban (2 nights) for a full day walk, with majestic views of the Himalayas.

Days 11-13: Take a short flight to Pokhara (3 nights), in one of Nepal’s most picturesque settings, where we walk along ridges and valleys in the lea of the awesomely beautiful Annapurna range, with time to relax in ethnic villages.

Days 14-15: A scenic drive takes us to the famous Royal Chitwan National (2 nights), set in the lowland, Terai region, of Nepal. We can ride on an elephant, with close-up views of magnificent rhinos, and take a river trip in a dug-out canoe, experiencing something of the local culture with a visit to a nearby village.

Day 16: Return to Kathmandu (1 night) for a farewell dinner.

Day 17: Departure

 

Annapurna Trekking Option
On this unique trekking option there will be six hours on most days at altitudes of up to 8,000ft.

Days 8 - 13: Trek below the great mountains, with wonderful views of Machhapuchare, Dhaulagiri and the Annapurnas, camping in comfort in idyllic spots on ridge tops and valleys. Our trek follows the Ghalel ridge at about 8,000ft passing through Ghrung, Brahmin and Chettri villages (5 nights).

Nepal Panorama
A balance of part-day walks and diverse sightseeing of man-made and natural wonders.

Guided Walks:
Distances between 4 and 8 miles with a maximum ascent of about 2,700ft. Paths are easy to follow though rough at times.

Annapurna Trekking Option

Guided Walks:
On this unique trekking option there will be six hours on most days at altitudes of up to 8,000ft.

Accommodation

In Kathmandu we stay at the Park Village Resort, a very comfortable hotel on the outskirts of the city, for 3 nights and a comfortable hotel in the centre of the city for our last night. All other hotels are comparatively luxurious lodge or resort hotels with very good facilities.

On trek we camp in relative luxury with full trekking facilities and a team of porters.
