Guided Cycling Tour
Starting in Budapest this unique and fully guided seven-night tour of the plains
of Hungary gives you the opportunity to experience it's amazing health spas and
thermal springs.
Accompanied by knowledgeable local guides you will cycle through stunning yet
predominantly flat terrain. Sample the local cuisine and unwind in the spas, famous
for their relaxing and therapeutic properties. Your overnight accommodation is
close to lakes, rivers, and springs known by the locals as the 'Oasis of Health'.

This popular guided tour takes you along quiet roads in rural
Hungary. There is some rough terrain on sections of the
route, but a follow up van is available if there is a section
that you would prefer not to cycle, or if you wish to take a
break from cycling. |
Day 1: Arrival in Budapest
Information meeting with your tour guide at 18:00. Dinner and
overnight stay in Budapest.
Day 2: Doba Puszta to Kunhegyes
28 miles
A transfer bus takes you to Szolnok-on-the-Tisza lake. Here
you collect your bicycles and begin your adventure. You begin
by cycling through a beautiful conservation area and picturesque
villages to Kunhegyes where you will be welcomed by your friendly
hosts. Afterwards, you can take your first thermal bath, at
38C, 32C or 24C, depending on your preference.
Day 3: Kunhegyes to Tiszaörs-Fürdötelep
30 miles
Enjoy a guided tour of the town including seeing the second biggest church in Hungary. Then it's back on your bike again
to Lake Tisza, the second largest lake in Hungary, for a swim.
Continue onwards to Tiszaörs-Fürdõ.

Day 4: Tiszaörs-Fürdötelep
to Hortobágy-Máta
28 miles
Today you cycle through part of the Hortobágy National
Park. The
flood plain is filled with bird song, and to sample the atmosphere
we take you on a boat trip. Then on to Hortobágy-Máta
to a riding centre where the famous Nonius breed
of horses are reared.
Day 5: Hortobágy Máta
to Nádudvar
30 miles
Today you experience the famous Puszta (Great Plain), an area
filled with bird life and flora and where you will enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride. Then cycle to the famous nine-holed Bridge on the border
of the Hortobágy village. You continue on to goose
farms and water wells to Nádudvar, known for its pottery.
Day 6: Nádudvar
24 miles
Today you take a circular route to Hajdúszoboszló,
a very popular resort on the great plain. Here you visit the
grandest Hungarian thermal spa with 17 pools including swimming,
wave and spring. Afterwards you continue to Hajdúszovát,
an old Hussar village, before returning to your hotel in Nádudvar.
Day 7: Nádudvar to Budapest
Our bus takes you and your luggage back to Budapest for a city sightseeing tour and there is a farewell-dinner this evening.
Day 8: End of tour after breakfast

You will stay in double or twin rooms in comfortable hotel
accommodation plus one night in a private house. Your luggage
is transported to each overnight stop for you along the route,
so you can relax and enjoy the cycling.
Your accommodation is Half Board, with wine included on 2 nights. A picnic lunch for a supplement of €11 or around £9 per day payable locally to your tour guide. They will accept Hungarian Forints, British pounds and US Dollars. This service is recommended due to the rural location of the lunch spots.
