Around the IJssel Lake
Guided Cycling and Cruising Tour
This lovely and varied tour takes you around the coastline of the IJssel Lake (the former Zuiderzee), visiting picturesque 17th century fishing villages, and to the wonderful nature reserve known as the Weerribben. Some of the highlights of the route include cycling through old Hanseatic towns, seeing the conserved fortified town of Elburg, crossing the Kamper Zeedijk into Kampen and visiting the traditional village of Spakenburg, where the villagers still wear traditional dress.

This guided cycling and cruising holiday offers cycling on paved
paths and some quiet roads in this beautiful region. You can
choose to stay on board the barge each day. |
Day 1: Arrival in Amsterdam
10 miles
This afternoon you sail to the
lovely village of Hoorn where you can do a familiarisation cycle tour this
evening.
Day 2: Hoorn to Lemmer
19 miles
Today’s cycle ride leads you
through the beautiful scenery of the North Holland region. When you
arrive in Enkhuizen you rejoin the boat and cross to Lemmer. This
evening join your guide for a walk through this characteristic port.
Day 3: Lemmer to Blokzijl/Vollenhove
25 miles
Cycling through the
province of Friesland you will immediately know why it is known for its
many waterways and lakes. You arrive at the village of Ossenzijl and we
recommend a visit to the Weerribben Nature Reserve Visitor Centre.
Continue along the Kalenberger canal to Blokzijl.
Day 4: Blokzijl/Vollenhove
Optional circular route 22 miles
You can
choose to cycle to Giethoorn today and go for a trip on the canals in the
region known as “the Venice of the North”.
Day 5: Blokzijl/Vollenhove to Kampen
25 miles
You pass the Belter
Wijde and Schutsloter Wijde Lakes on your way for a refreshment stop in
the lively town of Zwartsluis. Catch a ferry to Genemuiden and then
cycle on top of the Kamper Zeedijk to the Hanseatic town of Kampen.
Day 6: Kampen to Harderwijk
34 miles
Your first visit today is in the
beautifully preserved fortified town of Elburg. Continue from here through
woods and heathland to Harderwijk.
Day 7: Harderwijk to Amsterdam
37 miles
A short sailing trip to the
traditional fishing village of Spakenburg and then cycle to 14th century
Naarden. Continue along the shore of Lake IJssel, past Muiden to
Amsterdam. Optional guided walk this evening.
Day 8: End of tour after breakfast

For this cycling and cruising tour, your accommodation will be in bunk bed cabins. This wonderfully Dutch experience is a great way to discover the Netherlands while you meet and make friends with your fellow passengers.
All meals are included in the cost of this tour. Evening drinks are not included, but you can purchase these on board the barge.
