Our most popular guided walking holidays offer you
a choice of two or three length of walks each day; we
call them Classic Walking Holidays. An easier walk and harder
walk and one in between, perfect for those holidaying together
with different walking tastes. You can walk with one
party level one day, and switch to another the next - it's
entirely up to you.
After a full Scottish breakfast we generally start the day
at 9.30am taking a self-select picnic lunch and returning
to the Country House accommodation between 5.00pm and 6.30pm,
in time for a relaxed three-course evening meal.
Here we have described some of the walks which could be covered
and outline a typical walking week. Our routes are designed
to take into account the best an area has to offer.
We include all the transport you need to and from the walks
- there's no need to worry about car arrangements or sticking
to circular walks.
Our small groups with a guide really do help you get the best out of your holiday.
In a typical week in the Western Highlands you could enjoy a guided walking holiday
that includes the following walking options.
Day 1: Arrival day
Day 2: Warm up to a challenging
week's walking on this 7½ medium walk from Callert
House - along the old military road - to Kinlochleven. Alternative
walks: easierl 7 miles, 1,150ft of ascent; harder 7½ miles, 3,325ft of ascent.
Day 3: Ascend the highest peak
in Argyll - Bldean nam Bian (3,766ft). Alternative walks:
easier 10 miles, 325ft of ascent; medium 6½
miles, 3,025ft of ascent.
Day 4: The highlight of your
week if bagging munros and famous peaks is for you - Ben Nevis
- 9 miles and 4,500ft of ascent. Alternative walks: easier
8½ miles, 1,125ft of ascent; medium 7 miles, 2,475ft
of ascent
Day 5: If today's a Wednesday
we give you the chance to explore independently, there's plenty
to and do in the area. Alternatively stay at base and enjoy
the house and grounds in its loch side setting.
Day 6: In contrast try this
8½ mile walk through historic Glen Coe, scene of the famous massacre.
Alternative walks: medium 8½ miles, 3,025ft
of ascent; harder 5½ miles, 3,745ft of ascent.
Day 7: A challenging finale
to a week's walking with plenty of ascent (3,925ft) over 8
miles to capture speldid views of Ben Nevis to the north and
the Glen Coe mountains to the south. Alternative walks: easier 6¾ miles, 225ft of ascent; medium 6 miles, 2,975ft
of ascent.
Day 8: Departure day
At the end of a good day's walking
After dinner, your walking leaders will tell you about the
choice of walks for the next day, answer any questions you
may have about the routes, and advise on conditions, to enable
you to make your choice. During the evening you may like to
join in an organised evening activity such as a quiz or a
talk about the local area. Alternatively, have a drink in the bar or read a newspaper on the lounge. It all adds to the house party
atmosphere of a group of like-minded people holidaying
together.

The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. There is normally a good mix of ages,
of new clients and 'regulars' from Britain and overseas, and of couples, friends
and people travelling alone.
All our walks leaders are experienced, mostly enthusiasts who provide thoughtful,
safe and informative leadership at all times.
